Elm Creek Book Club and Block of the Month

You asked for it and here it is!! We are going to meet every six weeks to discuss the books of Jennifer Chiaverini. While discussing these fabulous books we will learn a block from the quilts in each book. The bolcks will be taken from Jennifer and Nancy Odom's book Elm Creek Quilts.In this book there are the 12 quilts that are featured in each of the first 4 books. So strat reading the first book THE QUILTER'S APPRENTICE.

We will meet the first  Monday of each month fo 12 months

BEGINNING QUILTING 1

From 10:30 am to 1:00 pm

IS YOUR SEWING MACHINE JUST SITTING THERE, BUT YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO USE IT?  BEGINNING QUILTING  IS WHERE YOU SHOULD START.

HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO QUILT,BUT ARE AFRAID? THIS CLASS WILL HAVE YOU CATCHING THE BUG, THE "QUILTING BUG" THAT IS !

YOU WILL LEARN ALL THE BASICS FROM CUTTING YOUR BEAUTIFUL FABRICS TO SNUGGLING UNDER YOUR FINISHED MASTER PIECE.

THE CLASS CONSISTS OF  4 SESSIONS 2-1/2 HOURS EACH. YOU'LL WORK AT A PACE COMFORTABLE TO YOU. THERE IS HOMEWORK,  BUT DON'T WORRY IF YOU CAN'T GET IT ALL DONE POINTS ARE NOT TAKEN OFF!

Sewing for Kids, The First Step

From 10:30 am to 1:00 pm

This is a beginning sewing class for children 8 years old and above. Children will have the opportunity to learn how to sew on a sewing machine, as they complete their project. For the first session the student will complete a pillow case, for the second session a tote bag will be completed.

DEAR JANE IS AN ONGOING CLASS WE MEET THE SECOND MONDAY OF THE MONTH AND LEARN A NEW BLOCK OR TWO . THIS IS AN INFORMAL CLASS AND WE LEARN SOME NEW TRICKS TO MAKING THE BLOCKS YOU WILL BE TOLD IN THE CLASS WHICH BLOCKS  WILL BE DONE IN THE NEXT MEETING. ALL ARE WELCOME. WE ARE AT ALL AT DIFFERENT STAGES IN OUR QUEST TO FINISH ALL 169 BLOCKS 52 TRIANGLES AND 4 CORNER KITES. WE FEEL BY WORKING TOGETHER IT PUSHES US ALONG.

THIS TULIP STILL LIFE IS THE BUZZ AROUND TOWN. EVERYONE WHO HAS SEEN IT HAS ALREADY PURCHASED THE FABRIC AND IS ANXIOUS TO TAKE THIS CLASS. SO......FINALLY WE HAVE DATES. THIS IS AN ORIGINAL PATTERN BY JANICE NESTA, FEATURING A QUICK-FUSED DESIGN ON A PAINTERLY BACKGROUND. QUILTING AND THREAD PAINTING WILL BE DEMONSTRATED. YOU'LL BE ABLE TO DO AS MUCH OR AS LITTLE AS YOU LIKE TO COMPLETE YOUR OWN MASTERPIECE.

DEBBIE DACOSTA HAS FIGURED OUT HOW TO SIMPLIFY  AN INTRICATELY DESIGNED  QUILT BLOCK , SO THAT  QUILTERS OF ALL LEVELS COULD PUT TOGETHER WITH THEIR EYES CLOSED!! COME IN AND SEE HER BEAUTIFUL SAMPLE. LAST TIME WE OFFERED THIS CLASS WE HAD A LONG WAITING LIST TO GET IN. SO ........DON'T BE DISSAPPOINTED AND SIGN UP IMMEDIATELY.

CONFETTI

IF YOU ARE LIKE MOST QUILTERS WHEN YOU LOOK AT YOUR CLOSET YOU WOULD DISCOVER A TRUE LOVE OF FABRICS. THIS QUILT WILL HELP YOU TO INCORPORATE AS MANY FABRICS AS POSSIBLE INTO YOUR QUILT. WE WILL BEGIN BY CREATING OUR OWN FABRIC DESIGNS. THEN WE WILL FINE-TUNE THE LOOK BY PLAYING WITH THE STRIPS TO BRING THIS QUILT TO LIFE.

THIS QUILT IS BASED ON THE BOOK BY BARBARA PERSING, "STRATA VARIOUS QUILTS." WHICH IS REQUIRED FOR THIS CLASS.

Sewing for Kids "Now We've Got It"

Children will boost their confidence as they learn to sew their own elastic waisted pants. Skills learned in Kids 1 and 2 preferred. This is an opportunity to reinforce skills learned previously.

CHENNILE RAG QUILT

THIS CLASS IS DESIGNED TO TEACH YOU HOW YOU CAN TAKE ANY SIMPLE STRAIGHT LINE QUILT PATTERN AND MAKE IT INTO THIS COZY RAG QUILT. I HAVE SEEN THIS DONE WITH HALF SQUARE TRANGLES, 4 PATCH DESIGN OR JUST A BIG BLOCK DESIGN I WILL SHOW YOU SOME EXAMPLES AND TEACH YOU THE TRICKS AND YOU WILL BE ABLE TO LEAVE THE CLASS WITH CONFIDENCE, THAT YOU CAN DESIGN AND COMPLETE YOUR OWN RAGGY CHENNILE QUILT.

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW

From 11:00 am to 4:00 pm

This fusible applique quilt will let you experiment with arranging a window box full of flowers. Many "wall" choices are available in fabric, such as brick,stone,or wood. The focal point can be a bird, as in the sample or possibly a butterfly. A larger more dynamic flower alone could also work

The blue bird in the sample is from an original watercolor of Janice's and will be available to purchase from her in class, if you desire

Bargello Quilt

The bargello quilt pattern is based on the ancient European bargellow needlepoint treasures indigenous to the Middle ages. Participate in your own renaissance by constructing this quilt along with Debbie, concentrating on color value and textures. she likes to point out that the quilt requires no batting whatsoever. to construct this quilt, you simply sew as you go! As you piece the quilt,you quilt the quilt! (Say that ten times fast!) Intermediate to advanced quilters. Three Sessions:

SCRAPPY LOG CABIN

This is not your ordinary log cabin. It's quick it's fun and it's easy.Taken from the book Log Cabin Quilts with attitude.Sharon V. Rotz shows us how to use a log cabin design  and take all the pressure of cutting away. Bring all your leftover scraps ,Bindings border strips etc. You will be able to complete this quilt at home so we are only scheduling 1 class for you to learn how to make the block. As always if you need a little more help I am avaiable .

BEACH BLANKET TOTE

Get ready summer is coming!!! This class is for the kids so Moms be prepared to learn from your child. all you need is the ability to  sew a straight line.The  tote unfolds into a blanket so when you go to the beach you can carry everthing in one bag. It will take 2 sessions to complete.
